Claude usage limits, and when they reset
The five-hour session limit, the weekly limit and its fixed reset time, and what you can do when you reach either one, from Anthropic's own help pages.
Five-hour session limits
Claude Pro and Max both have a session usage limit that resets every five hours. Claude, Claude Code and IDE activity share those limits. What is the Pro plan?, What is the Max plan?, Claude Code with Pro or Max
Usage limits cap interaction over time; a chat's length limit is its context window. Usage depends on the model, conversation length and complexity, effort level, tools and connectors. Usage and length limits
Anthropic also reserves the right to apply weekly, monthly, model or feature caps for capacity and fair access. What is the Pro plan?, What is the Max plan?
When does the Claude weekly limit reset?
Pro and Max also have a weekly usage limit that applies across all models. What is the Pro plan?, What is the Max plan?
Anthropic's Pro and Max plan pages both say it resets "at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account." Your reset day and time stay the same regardless of when you start using Claude or when your subscription begins, and each cycle restores your full weekly allowance. So the weekly limit is not a rolling seven days from your first message. What is the Pro plan?, What is the Max plan?

Fable's share of Max usage
On Max, Fable models may use up to 50% of the weekly allowance at no extra cost and consume it faster than other Claude models. Max also has a separate weekly limit for Fable. Fable models on your plan, Claude Code with Pro or Max

Claude Code's wrap-up at the session limit
If the five-hour limit arrives during a response, Claude Code may briefly finish the current step and count that work against the weekly limit. Wrap-up only applies to a response already in progress and is rolling out gradually. Claude Code with Pro or Max
On Pro, it can apply up to once per weekly usage period; on Max, it can apply each time the five-hour limit is reached while weekly usage remains. Claude Code with Pro or Max

Usage credits and extra usage
Usage past your plan's included limits is paid with usage credits; some Anthropic pages still call this extra usage, and the /usage-credits command was previously named /extra-usage. After you enable usage credits and fully use a five-hour or weekly included limit, requests switch to usage credits at standard API rates. In Settings > Usage > Usage credits, choose Enable and set a monthly spend limit or an unlimited cap. If you subscribed through a mobile app, enable usage credits on the web. Usage credits apply to Claude conversations and Claude Code terminal usage. Usage credits
Max's monthly API credits can't be used in Claude Code or the Claude apps, including for extra usage. Claude Code with Pro or Max
One-off limit resets
Anthropic occasionally offers limit resets to eligible plans; using one restores the five-hour session limit or weekly limit shown on the offer. Your normal weekly reset day and time stay unchanged. What is a limit reset?
Use an available reset in Settings > Usage > Resets on the web or Claude Desktop, or from the limit-reached message. The Reset for free button is unavailable on Claude Mobile and in Claude Code's terminal and IDE, but a redeemed reset restores usage there too. What is a limit reset?
You can use a reset before reaching a limit, and redemption cannot be undone. Any expiry appears in Settings > Usage, and cancelling or downgrading before redemption removes the offer. A reset does not refund already billed extra usage or change your usage credit balance. What is a limit reset?
